These are just a few words that have been used to describe me and my work. But I think my favourite has to be from Jonathon Curtis, the “...under-appreciated skill of being a good listener…” This one resonates with me, because people always say that I’m the quiet one, but really I’m just taking everything in, until I feel I have something of substance to contribute.
Everyone talks about design thinking and its value; I’ve even done the same myself, but at this point does anyone really know what it means? No seriously, can someone tell me! Because in my opinion, every client is different and should be dealt with on an individual basis, but the ability to really listen to them is always of the utmost importance, whatever method of working you choose.
At this point I should probably brag about the companies I’ve worked with around the world and the valuable design solutions that I’ve delivered for them. But that would be big headed of me, even if it is technically true. So instead, I’ll tell you that I’ve had multiple rounds of interviews at Metalab, Critical Mass, Apple, Elmwood and Balkan Brothers, without quite making the cut. Is it bragging if I didn’t get a job offer?
Ask anyone I’ve ever worked with and they’ll say that I’m the guy to ask about anything. I can astound you with some random fact one minute, then look like a complete idiot the next and I’m not afraid to admit it. Did I once single handedly get a 100% score in a pub quiz? Maybe. Will I ever repeat that feat? NO!
Truth be told, I’m just an awkward geek that loves to be creative and learn new things.
